PLAINS - The Plains Town Council met last Monday night and among the major announcements made at the meeting, Plains Volunteer Fire Department Chief Joe Sheppard announced to the council that they have welcomed two new members.

The two new members are J.C. Magee and Kevin Olfert, and both residents of Plains. Present at the meeting were council members Shanon Hedahl, Audrey Kolbeck, Danny Rowan, Chris Allen, and Carl Reeb. Mayor Michael Brinson and Clerk/Treasurer Cathy Emmett were also present.

Among the agenda items, the December meeting minutes, financial report, and claims and payroll reports were read aloud and approved by the council. For the Mayor’s report, Mayor Brinson stated that the town will be seeing more coal trains coming through and he has asked the railroad to do a study to possibly make a road under one of the crossings as to not hinder emergency services.

The council also agreed to make one posting area for meetings and Ordinances at the town hall. Carl Reeb made a motion to make the board in front of City Hall the official posting places for meetings and Ordinances. The council also agreed to hang a “No Soliciting sign on the front door of City Hall.

Mayor Brinson also brought up that someone was interested in the old fire truck out at the old airport; however, Chief Joe Sheppard stated that he thinks the engine is the Town of Plains’ first fire truck and the city fire department would like to restore it for parades.

According to the meeting minutes, the multiple committees had no new updates or news, and the meeting adjourned approximately at 8:10 p.m.
