PLAINS – The Sanders County Fair Commission hosted its first meeting of the New Year and touched on a variety of topics involving the upcoming fair.

After approving the minutes from the November meeting, the fair board discussed the possibility of moving the meeting day to the third Thursday of each month instead of the third Monday. No decision was made.

The commission stuck to the agenda to the T, and moved along the agenda items with little trouble or refute from the public attendees of the meeting.

The items brought to the table were that of the orientation of the two newest fair commission members, as well as the  2013 fair theme suggestions, pavilion roof repair, and finances for the fiscal year thus far.

It was stated by fair manager Mike Hashisaki that the fiscal budget amounted up to $455,098. Of that 2012-2013 fiscal budget, they get three and three-quarter mils, which amounts up to $123,750.

The issue of deciding on a theme for the 2013 Fair was discussed, and a list of suggested themes was read aloud to the board and attending public. Among the suggested themes, ‘Wrangler jeans and rodeo scenes’ was stated to be the favorite.

“We’ve got a darn good rodeo and I think we need to push it,” Hashisaki said.

The theme will be decided on at next month’s meeting, on Feb.18.
