Jennifer Straughn from the Trail radio station was on hand at the January meeting of the Mineral County Chamber of Commerce to discuss the 2013 Inaugural Trail Rail Run through Mineral County.

Straughn organized the event, which will take place on June 22, and stated that volunteers and sponsors are needed for various duties and assistance before and during the run.

Registration for the race will be available online up until the day before the run. Handouts with more information about the race are available at the Chamber Office, This and That and the Lozeau Lodge as well as other business locations in Superior and St. Regis.

As part of the regular committee reports, Mineral County Chamber of Commerce Vice President Mike Dodd agreed to continue chairing the golf tournament for this year. Dodd said he is beginning to work on scheduling a date as well as implanting changes to the event that correspond with feedback from last year’s event.

The chamber received a Community Foundation grant for $400 to assist in covering a portion of the printing of this year’s business directory, which according to official minutes from the meeting “promises to be more pages than ever before.”

Work is being done to complete this year’s directory, which according to committee members will cost around $3,000 to complete and print.

Chamber Office Manager Mary Jo Berry reported that office hours are occurring three days a week and there is a possibility a new tenant will rent at the building to share in the rental expenses. Berry also reported that non-profit organizations are currently utilizing the building as well.

Gordon Hendrick was on hand to speak with members of the chamber about the chamber co-sponsoring the 14th Annual Superior Car Show.

Hendrick said there will be regular meetings and reports involving the chamber in the months leading up to the show and the event will raise money for scholarships and grants.

A motion to co-sponsor the event was made by George Bailey. This motion was seconded by Carol Young and approved unanimously.

The next meeting of the Mineral County Chamber of Commerce will take place on February 21 at 7 pm.
