CHESTER- The Piranhas of Plains may sound like an oxymoron but the swimmers on this team are proving that their place is in the pool. Coaches Rachel and Jake Cremer took eight swimmers to the meet in Chester over the weekend where every one of them posted season best times.

All of the swimmers that went to the meet in Chester made it to the finals. The team continues to improve week after week under the solid tutelage from the Cremers. The relatively inexperienced team seems to be undergoing a transition from prey to predator in the pool.

The Piranhas were aided by a standout performance from Kendra Newman of Thompson Falls. Newman took first place in the 9-10 year old girls 50-meter freestyle with a time of 34.87 seconds. That time was a new pool record.

Newman was not done. She went on to place first in the 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 47.04 seconds and second place in the 50-meter butterfly with a time of 39.67 seconds. Newman finished second overall in the girls 9-10 year old category with a score of 42 points. Coach Rachel Cremer said the team continues to progress as the season goes on.

“We had a great meet and some great swims. All of our swimmers showed improvement getting their best times for the season,” said Cremer.
