Firefighters from the Superior Ranger District, as well as St. Regis Rural Fire Department and Sanders County Ranger District, responded to four separate fires Tuesday on Highway 135.

According to Assistant Fire Management Officer Lorie Cotter, the fires were caused by a passing train and burned through primarily light brush and grass.

“One of the fires reached two-acres and the other three were half acre fires,” Cotter said. “We had a very quick response time and the fires were very quickly contained.”

Cotter added the lack of winds, as well as the cooler temperatures helped firefighters quickly contain the blaze.

“It’s 100 percent contained and we don’t anticipate anymore problems,” Cotter said. “But this is showing us we are definitely getting into fire season and we are expecting a typical one.”
