Howard Curtis Martin

Howard Curtis Martin, 62, went to be with the Lord on June 19, 2013 in St. Regis, Montana. Born March 22, 1951 in Keyser, West Virginia to the late Harvey Leonard Martin and Ruth Pauline Keplinger Martin.

He graduated from Petersburg High School in 1970, where he excelled in football and wrestling. After graduation he was employed with Kessel’s Lumber Company before enlisting with the United States Army in 1972.

Howard married Ellen Susan Rotruck on December 19, 1976 in Redmont, West Virginia. He served three tours in Germany, where he brought home two daughters and a cuckoo clock. Howard retired in 1992, after serving his country for twenty years. He was employed with Tricon Timber LLC at the time of his death.

Howard was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his three grandsons.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Martin, both parents, Harvey and Ruth Martin, and several nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his wife Ellen S. Martin of St. Regis; two daughters, Ellen P. Martin and her fiancée Dale of St. Regis; Susan E. Martin of St. Regis; three grandsons, Curtis R. Martin, Devin W. Martin and Luke M. Bowen, all of St. Regis; three sisters, Flo, Sue and Betty all of West Virginia, and three brothers, Leonard, Calvin and Dale; all of West Virginia.

Viewing was private, with no visitation. Funeral arrangements were made by the Cremation and Burial Society of the Rockies.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up in his name at the Mullan Trail Bank in Superior or St. Regis.

A memorial service will be held this Saturday, July 20, 2013, from 2-5 pm at the St. Regis Park to honor Howard’s memory, with a potluck to follow. The family requests no alcohol, please. Full military honors will be held.
