PLAINS- The Piranhas of Plains continue to drop seconds from their times as the team swarmed into Fort Benton over the weekend with 24 swimmers competing. According to Swim Coach Rachel Cremer, the team keeps upping the ante against stiff competition from more experienced teams around the region.

“What a great meet,” said Cremer. “We took 24 swimmers to Fort Benton and saw some of the best swims of the season. We saw 18 of our swimmers make it into the finals.”

Kendra Newman dominated in the pool once again placing third in the 100-meter freestyle, second in the 50-meter butterfly and bringing home first place in the 50-meter freestyle.

Grace Alexander placed first in the girls 11-12 100-meter backstroke and Isaac Cremer took third in the boys 11-12 50-meter breaststroke.

In one of the more remarkable performances, Cooper Szafryk shaved off a whopping 14 seconds from his 100-meter freestyle race. Szafryk is a first year swimmer and had one of the largest time drops of the meet for the Piranhas.

“We are so proud of the swimmers and the parents who came out to Fort Benton,” said Cremer. “This week we will continue to work on stroke technique and speed work as we look forward to traveling to Conrad this weekend.”
