An update from Rep. Schwaderer

| July 24, 2013 11:52 AM

Over the past week and a half the community overcame a difficult time where a raging fire north of Superior threatened the very homes of many people in our community. Thanks to the hard work of firefighters and various organizations locally and form out of town (at the time of this writing) no structures have been damaged and evacuations in much of Superior have been lifted.

On the third night of the fire as the flames were quickly advancing to town and the inferno was raging, the community again gathered to a fire update at the courthouse lawn in Superior to learn more about what to expect. After roughly half an hour of debriefing, the meeting was opened up to questions from the community. Showing the spirit of the area, most of the questions were folks asking what they could do and how they could pitch in to help the fire effort. Cookies were donated to the firefighters, kids made a slew of signs to display thanking the firefighters in town, and applause was common as fire trucks drove by.

From the West End to Alberton, locals jumped in to help in any way they could. Be it helping friends evacuate or prepare for evacuation, or chipping in any way they could to help the various efforts underway as a community handles such a massive operation as combating this fire.

When times get tough, those in Mineral County get tougher. As this fire continues to develop I would like to sincerely thank all of those working on the firefighting and local support efforts.
