Relay for Life to kick off with BBQ

| July 24, 2013 11:36 AM

Famous Dave’s is coming to Thompson Falls on Friday, Aug. 2.

The well-known barbecue restaurant is set to bring an outdoor dinner right to the doorstep of the Sanders County Relay for Life.

The meal will be one of the first events of the Relay, and community members are invited to attend, whether or not they plan to walk during the upcoming 15-hour event. Relay for Life raises funds for the American Cancer Society’s services and programs to Montana cancer patients.

All with the hankering for barbecue are encouraged to buy advance tickets for tasty platefuls that will include Georgia chopped pork, roasted chicken, baked beans and a corn muffin.

“Be sure and buy your tickets ahead of time, as only 200 tickets will be sold,” said Wood. Cost of the tickets, sold in advance, is $10.

“The dinner will be a fun way to start out this year’s Relay,” said Relay food chairperson Danielle Wood. “Bring your folding chair or a blanket for the picnic style meal, which will be served from 6 to 6:40 p.m. in the outdoor commons area of Thompson Falls High School.”

Proceeds from the dinner go to Relay for Life.

Those enjoying the barbecue meal are invited to stay on to also partake of Relay festivities, which begin at 7 p.m. with an opening lap celebrating survivors and those fighting cancer.

Tickets can be purchased in Plains at First Security Bank of Plains, or from Danielle Wood, who can be reached at 827-0486 or 360-509-7885.
