Adam Kay doesn’t want another quarterback. But then again why would he after a championship season were the receiver was found time and time again by Billy Smith.

On Saturday night at the Bob Cleverley All-Star 8-man football game in Butte, the duo once again took center stage early – with Smith connecting with Kay for a 36-yard touchdown to put the Blue team up 7-2 in the first.

“It felt really good to be back on the field (with Billy Smith),”Kay said. “I don’t want to have another quarterback just by the chemistry we have. We were playing really well that night.”

Being able to put his team on the board with the first touchdown of the game not only set the tone for the rest of the evening but helped shake any cobwebs the duo might have had from the long break as well.

“It felt great and even better was it was an amazing catch,” Kay said. “I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t even know how I caught it. It was a diving catch and it was nice.”

The game was almost a rematch of the 8-man championship game due to the overwhelming number of Fairview players suiting up for the opposing Red Team. And the results were almost identical.

“It was pretty much the same except we had a couple extra people on our team,” Kay said. “It felt great (to beat the Fairview players). It felt almost as good as the first time.”

For Kay, Smith, Josh Goins and Billy Lowen the week prior to the All-Star game was an intense one – they arrived in Butte last Monday and went through two-a-day practices all week.

“It was a long week but it was worth it in the end,” Kay said.

Kay added that he was impressed with the performance of the rest of his Bobcat brethren during the game.

“They stepped up exactly when they needed too,” Kay said. “

Smith ended the game with two touchdown passes and Kay, who was named the games MVP, finished with 112-yards receiving.

The Blue Team beat the Red Team 56-16.
