Kathy Anne Machin Legard

Kathy Anne Machin Legard passed away Friday, June 14 due to a very unfortunate accident. She died with her arms holding her grandson Jake and her great-granddaughter Peytan Yoder. She had a great love for all her grandchildren and all young people.

Kathy was born in Yakima, Washington October 29, 1949, daughter of Donna and John Machin.

In 1962 her family moved to Plains, MT where she finished grade school and graduating from Plains High School in 1968. She met her future husband Patrick Legard that year and they were married June 29, 1968.

While living in Idaho she became active as a Cub Scout Leader and in 4-H. Her three boys all started 4-H showing rabbits, working with her boys and other youngsters. She carried on in 4-H after they moved back to Plains. The boys all raised and showed swine. Kathy loved her pigs. She continued to be active in 4-H with her grandchildren and nephew’s children. For three years she had charge of the 4-H kitchen at fair time. Good food always served.

For 12 years, Kathy worked with the clients at Little Bitterroot. She loved each and every one of the clients.

Kathy was preceded in death by her much loved step-father Roland C. McCrea, her grandparents on both sides of the family.

She is survived by her husband Patrick, sons Scott (Sharon), Eric (Patsy), Mark and her almost 4th son Roland D. McCrea, her mother Donna L. McCrea, brothers Neal and Toby McCrea, sister Robin (Doug) Ovitt, and Julie Tompkins. Grandchildren Kieara Yoder, Jaycee Legard, Morgan, Travis, Jessica Legard.

Nieces and nephews Angela and Dezi Ovitt, Russ, Beau, and James Ovitt, Kaylan, Erin, Cole and Donna Jean McCrea, numerous other well loved cousins and in-laws.

In lieu of flowers Kathy would wish you to donate to the 4-H Sanders County Council, Sanders County Search and Rescue or Flathead County Search and Rescue.

A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held Saturday, June 29 at the 4-H Camp at the Sanders County Fairgrounds at 11 a.m. Bring your best story and best dish.
