PLAINS - The Plains High School National Honor Socitey inducted several new members last Tuesday, and the values instilled in the organization were displayed for all to see.

Prinicipal Larry McDonald explained the selection process after the opening pledge. He stated there is a panel of teachers that look at the application, then by vote of the panel, they decide if the student is ready for membership, and if they actively display the qualities that are the foundation of the organization.

“For membership in National Honor Society, I would say it’s going to be very hard to be lazy,” Mr. McDonald said in his speech to the new inductees. “Because you wouldn’t be here in the first place if you were lazy, and I would assure you - and some of the older members understand - that doing the things that have to be done encourages you not to be lazy. It is an expectation, and there’s no room for laziness. The acts of service, the leadership, requires everyone to do their part.”

Mr. McDonald then quoted Scipture

“Talk isn’t enough,” he read. “Proverbs 14:23 says all hard work brings profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. So we need to do things, we have to get out, and we have to work. I want to emphasize that all you guys have worked hard.”

After a poem was read by senior Ashley Holmees, the four pillars of National Honor Society, Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character, represented as candles, were lit by members Corle Morefield, Alex Hagerman, Mahala Harris, and Laura Bratz.

“These very qualities that we expected from you to get in this are the exact same qualities that you should be expecting of yourselves for the rest of your lives,” McDonald said.

New inductees were: Kendra Bertrand, Tanna Cole, Danny Damschen, Hannah Hardcastle, Samantha Kinzie, Russell Kujala, Hailey Phillips, and Courtney Subatch.

Second year members are: Keely Benson, Laura Bratz, Caleb Connolly, Felicia Earhart, Mahala Harris, Corle Morefield, Nicole Rehbein, and Tia Thompson.
