Spring sports are in full swing and although several of the Superior/Alberton High School Tennis team were away competing in the state BPA competition, Head Coach Rick Berreth began preparing his team for the upcoming season.

Coach Berreth said it would take some time to really know what the squad will be capable of when the season comes but has high expectations.

“We should be a top-notch team,” Berreth said.

The squad returns all but two players this season – one, state champion Cary Chamberlain, and another senior who chose not to play and Berreth said he is most confident about his two returning doubles teams.

“Both of our doubles teams went to state last year and performed well,” Berreth said. “Our second doubles team went set for set with the number one team so we should be competing for state. The biggest thing at state will probably be how the doubles team does.”

This season also marks the return of Alberton senior Emma Wooldridge, who last season was the number two singles player for the team before an injury put her out for the season.

“We have Emma coming back and if she comes back healthy we will be good,” Coach Berreth said.

Coach Berreth added that the biggest thing he will be focusing on with his squad is “getting them in shape.”

Superior/Alberton tennis begins their regular season on April 2 at home against Valley Christian.
