Commissioners award gravel contract to Gull

Mineral County Commissioners unanimously approved to award Donald Gull’s bid for 2,000 yards of gravel.
The move came after Jason McLees recommended the commissioners award Gull with the bid for the price of $8,500 ($4.25 a cubic yard.)
“I looked up the last four and this is the same price we had last year,” McLees said. “I would make the recommendation that we award him the bid.”
Gull was the only bidder for the contract on the gravel, which according to McLees is “pretty common.”
“You have to be kind of mobile to go to Tarkio and not a lot of guys with screening plants are mobile anymore wbut have kind of a set-up,” McLees said.
Commissioner Laurie Johnston made a motion to accept the bid, which was seconded by Commissioner Duane Simons and approved unanimously.
“Mr. Gull got it,” Commissioner Roman Zylawy said.
“Thank you,” Gull replied. “I will get on it very quickly.”
McLees informed Gull his department would make the necessary preparations at the site so Gull could begin removing the chip seal.
“What are we going to do when old Mr. Gull decides he doesn’t want to work anymore,” Commissioner Zylawy asked.
McLees responded that Gull has “always been really fair” with his bids and there has “never been an issue with him.”
“He measures (his loads of chip seal) with buckets and we have always been really close and if it’s off it is always over,” McLees said.
