Boomer Boys rock Mineral County

| March 27, 2013 9:57 AM

The Rock N’ Roll music of the 50’s and 60’s comes to Mineral County courtesy of the Mineral County Medical Foundation at its spring fund-raiser on Saturday, April 20 at the Community Center in St. Regis.

The disk jockey starts spinning the platters (45 records) at 5:30 P.M., as a warm up to the rockinest band in Montana -The Boomer Boys!

Remember American Bandstand, American Grafitti, and TV’s Happy Days. Well, Dick Clark is now master of ceremonies at the “Big Bandstand’ in heaven, but we have Monte Turner to MC the sock hop. Monty won’t be wearing Elvis’s blue suede shoes; however he will have on Pat Boone’s white bucks.

Just imagine that favorite drive-in you used to hang out at during your teen age years.

It was every Friday night that we would congregate there to see that cute waitress, or that handsome guy who owned the 51 Ford with ten coats of candy apple paint. How about those hamburgers and shakes. You haven’t tasted better since then.

Now you can experience a taste of the past as the medical foundation recreates the drive-in experience of the rock n’ roll era with gourmet hamburgers, hotdogs, ice cream floats, and other 50’s goodies.

The Boomer Boys will entertain with the music of Elvis, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Marty Robbins, Little Richard, Bobby Vinton, Richie Valens and the Beatles. And yes, even the likes of Rick Nelson and Wayne Newton.

On the distaff side, you’ll hear the songs of Brenda Lee, Connie Francis, Lavern Baker, and Annette Funicello. The entertainment and food is $25.00 per person. Raffle tickets for the $500.00 in cash prizes is $5.00 a piece or five for $20.00. All monies raised go towards purchasing medical equipment for the hospital. To purchase tickets call: 649-2977/649-4747.

So fellows, get out those pegged pants, the thin white belt, and if you still have hair, make it into a flattop or a DA.

Sorry ladies, the fire marshal won’t allow any beehive hairdo’s.

Hum baby, there will be a prize for the man and woman who’s dress is most like the rock n’ roll period. Live the memory! Let’s “Rock Around The Clock.”
