Head Coach Vicki Nytes had her hands full as the Hot Springs High School track and field team met for practice on Friday. With four returning state qualifiers, Coach Nytes, in her second year as head coach, was busy with “the largest team we’ve had in recent memory.”

With a diverse range of talents, the track team is expecting to be competitive in a wide array of events. Returning state competition veterans qualified in throwing events, sprints, long distance running, and hurdles. Athletes were scattered around the high school grounds, tossing the discus, running sprint drills and performing the famous Fosbury flop in the high jump.

With Dave Cross throwing discus, Amanda Woods running the 1600 meter and 3200 meter distance races, Anthony Byrns sprinting the 100 meter and 200 meter races and Wyatt Nagy competing in the 300 meter hurdles, Coach Nytes said the team has some “exciting possibilities.”

“We’ve had really consistent practices,” said Nytes after only a week of workouts.

Hot Springs High School will host a meet on April 25. Their first competition of the year will be on March 28 in Ronan.
