THOMPSON FALLS - The Bluehawks golf team is in good shape for the upcoming divisionals taking place in Bozeman on May 14, bringing in two second place victories home.

The team played at St. Regis on May 2 and came in with a team total of 354 right behind Loyola.

Dalton Hooten had 78 points, Caleb Bates had 82 points, Tyler Bates brought in 91 points, Ross Dalby secured 103 points and Greg Wadsworth had 116 points.

With Loyola being three time defending state championships, Head Coach Gary Thompson said they were happy with second.

“I thought we played well overall. To shoot 78 on that course is really good,” said Coach Thompson explaining the rather difficult course has many tight fairways and waterholes throughout.

On May 4 the team went to Deer Lodge and pulled out a solid second win at the tournament.

Hooten scored 80 points, Tyler Bates had 82 points, Caleb Bates had 83 points, Dalby had 92 and Wadsworth came in with 104 points.

The final team score was 337 points.

“If we can do that at divisionals we’ll be in pretty good shape for top four in divisionals,” said Coach Thompson stating that would grant them a spot in the State Tournament on May 21 and 22.

The Bluehawks continue to work on their game and have set up a match play tournament within their team to stay competitive.

The team has also been studying maps of the Bridger Creek Golf Course, getting as familiar with the course as they can.

None of the golfers have played the course where divisionals will take place and although they are preparing to the best of their ability, it could be a disadvantage to them.

“The other teams might have an advantage that have played it,” said Coach Thompson.

“We’re very optimistic but we’re ready for anything.”
