Track teams compete in county meet

The Trotters racked up yet another impressive win at the Sanders County track meet on Thursday in Thompson Falls winning with a score of 123 points. Led by Hailey Phillips who won all five of her events, the Trotters easily outmatched the 35.5 points put up by Hot Springs.

Phillips ran the 200-meter race in 27.32 seconds, the 400-meter in 64.07 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles in 48.12 seconds. She added victories in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet 6.5 inches as well as in the triple jump flying 34 feet 1.5 inches through the air.

The Trotters were aided by two victories from Leah Thompson in the discus and the shot put with throws of 121 feet nine inches and 37 feet three inches respectively.

Coach Denise Montgomery said, “Leah is throwing further and further at every meet. It’s really fun to watch.”

The Trotters were not done as Nicole Rehbein won the 100-meter race with a time of 13.34 seconds. Demi Horton beat out the field in the 800-meter followed closely by teammate Kimberly Earhart. Ashley Holmes added a win in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.63 seconds.

On the boys side, Hot Springs and Thompson Falls tied for first place with 95 points apiece. Tanner Hoff won three events for the Savage Heat, the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.88 seconds, the javelin with a toss of 148 feet even and the high jump with a leap of 5 feet 2.25 inches.

For the Plains boys team, Wyatt Winebrenner took first in the discus with a toss of 131 feet 5.5 inches and second in the javelin with a throw of 141 feet 10 inches. Ben Gorham added a win in the shot put with a toss of 49 feet one inch.

Preston Schubert for Thompson Falls won the triple jump with a leap of 40 feet even and pole vault with a height of 13 feet even.

Bradley Wilson of Noxon won the 1600-meter race with a time of 4 minutes 54.72 seconds. Neal Jopling of Noxon won the long jump with a leap of 19 feet 6.5 inches.

At the Archie Roe Memorial Meet in Kalispell, the Trotters had another dominating performance from Nicole Rehbein who ran her personal best in the 400-meter. Leah Thompson added two more victories in the shot put and discus and Carly Vonheeder won the freshman javelin.

Hot Springs and Noxon will next compete at the district meet in Polson on May 9. Thompson Falls and Plains will compete at their district meet on May 11 in Eureka.
