Trotters struggle early but pull out a win

The Trotters had a tough few games against the team from Florence on Tuesday dropping both ends of a double-header at home. Plains lost the first game 21 to 13 and the second by a score of eight to three.

The Trotters had 19 hits in the loss including a two run shot from Leah Thompson. Aspen Rude had seven strikeouts on the mound for Plains while Destiny Roberts went three for four at the plate and Tia Thompson added four hits of her own.

The bats were not quite as hot for the Trotters in the second game. Sami Kinzie went two for three at the plate with Rude, Alex Green and Sharia Caldwell adding one hit apiece. Tia Thompson struck out four Florence batters in the loss.

Plains faired better in their second series of the week versus Mission. Although they lost the first game 12 to four, the Trotters came up victorious in the second game, winning 14 to four.

Rude had six strikeouts in the first game and added a little offense as well going two for four at the plate. Leah Thompson added two hits including a home run. Jena Peterson, Tia Thompson, and Danika Whitcomb each had a hit in the first match.

Tia Thompson had four strikeouts in the second game as the bats came alive for the Trotters.

Peterson, Rude, Roberts and Whitcomb each had one hit with Green and Kinzie adding two apiece. Tia Thompson added two hits including a two run dinger, helping Plains win 14 to four.

Coach Jeff Rude said, “We are gonna keep working on our defense. I’m gonna hit a lot of balls to them in practice.”

The Trotters faced Loyola at home on Tuesday. Results were not available at time of press.
