Plains track team competes at districts
PLAINS - The Trotters of Plains won yet another meet, this time it was the district meet in Eureka with a score of 195 on May 11. The Plains girls track and field team easily defeated the runner up Big fork with a score 131.
The Trotters were led by strong performances from Nicole Rehbein, Ashley Holmes, Shannon Dimond, Carley VonHeeder, Corle Morefield, Kayla Holmes, Felicia and Kimberly Earhart, Demi Horton, Leah Thompson and Hailey Phillips.
In sprint events Nicole Rehbein won the 100-meter with a time of 12.95 seconds with Shannon Dimond coming in fourth with a time of 13.79 seconds. In the 100-meter hurdles Hailey Phillips finshed second with Ashley Holmes not far behind in sixth place.
The Trotters cleaned up in the 200-meter race with Phillips, Rehbein and Dimond going first, third and fourth respectively. The 4X100-meter relay team of Rehbein, Dimond, Corle Morefield and Kayla Holmes took first with a time of 54.03 seconds.
Phillips won the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 46.22 and took first in the 400-meter race as well followed by Rehbein in third. The girls 4X400-meter relay comprised of Rehbein, Horton, Dimond and Felicia Earhart won first place with a time of 4:28.59.
In distance events, Felicia Earhart took second in the 3200-meter race with a time of 13:27.89. In the 1600-meter race, Plains took second and third place with Kimberly Earhart followed by Demi Horton. In the 800-meter; Horton, Felicia and Kimberly Earhart went second, third and fourth respectively.
The Trotters excelled in throwing events with Carley VonHeeder taking first place and Ashley Holmes taking third in the javelin. In the discus, Kayla Holmes took third place while Ashley Holmes placed fifth. In the shot put, Leah Thompson placed third ahead of Kayla Holmes who came in fourth place.
In jumping events, Morefield took third in the triple jump followed by VonHeeder who took fourth place. In the long jump, Phillips won the event with a leap of 15 feet 11.25 inches. Vonheeder took fourth in the event followed by Dimond in sixth place.
The Plains boys team had some strong showings as well. Ben Gorham won the shot put with a toss of 45 feet 7.5 inches and took third in the discus with a heave of 137 feet and seven inches. Wyatt Winebrenner placed second in the javelin followed by Gorham who placed sixth in the event.
In distance events, Russell Kujala had a strong meet finishing fourth in the 1600-meter race and sixth in the 3200-meter followed by Aaron Garrison in seventh place.
Plains track and field athletes who qualified will compete in the divisional meet in Missoula on May 17 through 18.
Coach Montgomery said, “We just need to take it one event at a time. Everyone is still improving so we just need to stay healthy.”
