Ruby Lorene Abbott

Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Ruby Lorene Abbott, 94, passed away on May 9, 2013, in Plains, Montana.

She was born on November 1, 1913 in Woodville, Idaho. She married James Howard Abbott Jr on May 20, 1940 in Weizer, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They had three children, Sandra, Douglas, and Elizabeth.

Due to Howard’s work on the Railroad, they lived several years in LaGrande, Oregon. When he retired, they moved to Pendleton, Oregon. Later after Howard’s death, Ruby moved to Plains, Montana, where she made many dear friends.

She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings which helped many people.

She won awards in geneology, and was known for her beautiful quilts, hand work, including embroidery and crochet, sewing, baking, canning, growing vegetables and flowers. She won hundreds of ribbons at the County Fair for these talents.

She had a flair for the dramatic. She directed plays and gave readings, and wrote poetry for church activities.

She was preceded in death by her husband James Howard Abbott Jr. and her son Douglas Alan Abbott.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Simonis, son-in-law Joe Simonis of Libby, Montana, daughter Elizabeth Nirschl, son-in-law David Nirschl of Pendleton, Oregon, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by three brothers, Glenn, Evan, and A.C. Hammer, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Plains, Montana Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Viewing will be Monday, May 13th from 5 – 7 p.m. at Sunset Hills Funeral Home in Plains, Montana.
