Thompson Falls comes out with first place victory at Districts

THOMPSON FALLS – The Bluehawks Track and Field team made their way to Eureka on Saturday for the district tournament and came out with a first place victory on the boy’s side.

The guys took first place with a score of 162, leading in front of the pack by six points.

Preston Schubert took multiple first place wins, placing first in the 400 with a time of 52.20, first in the 100 hurdles with 15.48, first again in the 300 hurdles with 40.03, and took the gold with both the high jump and the pole vault with a distance of 6-2 and 13-0 respectively.

Dominique Holt was another strong competitor taking second place in the 100 hurdles, the 300 hurdles, and the pole vault right behind Schubert with times of 15.66 and 41.72 respectively and a distance of 13 feet in the pole vault.

Holt also took third in the high jump with 6 even and fourth in discus with 122-7.

Tanner Laws had two third place finishes in the 1600 with 4:52.00 and in the 3200 with 11:16.00

Logan Naegeli secured second in the 3200 with 11:16.00 and came up with fifth place in the 1600 with 4:54.45.

In a fourth place finish, Mark Hamm ran the 3200 in 11:25.29 and got sixth in the 1600 with 4:58.98.

Dylan Vaught had a third place finish in the 100 with 11.63 and a fourth place finish in the 200 with 23.50. Vaught also had two six place finishes in the long jump and the triple jump with 18.95 and 38-5.73 respectively. Braxton Eubanks threw a 45-3 in the shot put earning him second place and Colt Shaw threw 142-1 in the javelin securing fourth place.

In the 800, Tyler Riffle took second with 2:12.84 and Dalton Nelson took fifth with 2:21.08.

Josh Wulfekuhle took fifth in the 100 hurdles and sixth in the 300 hurdles with 48.44.

The relay teams took the track and also placed, earning third in the 1600 relay with 3:49.11 and fourth in the 400 relay with 47.20.

“We ended up doing how we thought it would shake it. We thought we would have more points for the boys, we ended up pulling it out there in the end,” said Head Coach Randy Symon.

As for the girls, the ladies of Thompson Falls had 88 points pulling in fourth.

Senior Hope Reid was a name that kept coming up in the scores, securing three first places win and two-second place wins.

She took first in the high jump with 5-0, first in the pole vault and first in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15-2.

Reid took second in 300 hurdles with 47.64 and in the 200 with 27.09.

Allison Vaught took fifth in shot put with 28-6.5 and Logan Beckman followed right behind her with 28.5. Vaught also took second in javelin with Shasta Wilson coming in fifth and Logan Beckman coming in sixth.

Vaught also took sixth in discus with 89-11.

Shey Hannum had two second place finishes in both the high jump and triple jump. She also took fifth place in the 300 hurdles with 41.45.

Vika Szvesan had a time of 33.11 in the 200 coming up with sixth place while Aicia Curran took sixth in the 1,600 with 6:16.51. Angela Padden also secured sixth place in the pole vault.

Coach Symon said he expects divisional and state to go pretty well, especially with his strong upper-class kids leading the team.
