PLAINS – The kids of Plains hit the stage on Thursday night for their Hawaiian-inspired spring concert.

To kick it off, the first graders hit the stage dressed in a tropical getup serenading the crowd with two songs, featuring Happy Opu (Happy Tummy) and See you Later.

The first graders were than followed by the second grade who also sang two songs.

The fifth grade band filled the air with their rhythm and later broke into a few small groups to showcase their skills.

According to Band Director Brittany Majerus the fifth grade band showed tremendous progress throughout the school year, improving steadily as they practiced.

The kindergartens who had graduated earlier that day sang the Hello and Goodbye song and the Kindergarten Graduation Song.

A duo of soloists took the stage and helped the third graders sing the song Humuhumunukunukuapua’a – a song about a fish with a really long name. Sarah Smith and Gabe Worrall riled the crowd with laughs as they took the microphone with their funny banter.

The song It’s Raining was next in line belted out by the fourth graders. Once they finished the third and fourth grade choirs combined to give the audience a performance of Down at the Beach.

The sixth grade band followed the acts with three songs, honing their skills.

For the grand finale a group of kids and administration staff performed CowaBoinga on recorders with a mixture of song and dance moves bringing cheers and laughs from the crowd.

Overall, Majerus said the concert went great.

“The kids sang really well and the bands played great,” said Majerus. “Everyone seemed to enjoy it.”

The concert marked the last of the school year and showcased the progress the kids had made throughout the year.
