PLAINS – Kids and community members gathered at the El Johnson Memorial Pool Park on Friday for a community outreach program put on by District 777.

District 777 is a youth group of the Plains Bible Chapel and with the help of the Alliance Youth Group the two put on an event that the community could come out and enjoy.

With sunny, beautiful weather, people filled the park and enjoyed a BBQ and were later greeted by numerous performances.

The day started off with worship and later went onto people who took a stand and shared their messages and testimonials of God. As the night continued, a skit commenced and a band took the stage and sang worship songs with the crowd.

Organizer of the event, Kari Warnes, said she was happy with the outcome of the event.

“We had no idea what to expect and I think it’s been good for our first one,” said Warnes explaining that this event is something they would like to keep doing in future years.

Warnes explained the purpose of the event was to bring the community together in worship.

The event also helped serve as a kick off for the summer youth group who will be meeting at the park every Friday at 6:30 p.m.

“It gives the kids something positive to look forward to every week,” said Warnes talking about the upcoming youth group meetings.

As the band came to a close, many of the kids and community members took to the field where they played Frisbee until the darkness of the night crept up onto them.
