Shirley Hendershot

Shirley Hendershot, 86, former Malta resident, passed away Oct. 26 of natural causes. Per her request, no services will be held.

Shirley was born on April 9, 1927 to Lester Clark and Ruth Clark Abbey. She attended school in Malta, graduating from MHS in 1944. That same year, she married Earl “Mike” Hendershot in Richmond, Virginia. He was in the navy, and Shirley went back to Malta where she was a telephone operator for a number of years.

In 1958 the family moved to Sandpoint, Idaho, and later to Superior, Montana, where she lived until her death. She was a stay-at-home mom and eventually went to work at Schneider Chevrolet as a bookkeeper.

She is survived by three children: Vicki Gellein of Malta, Steve Hendershot of Superior, Mikie Lagerquist of Alberton, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her step-dad, Les Abbey, and her husband Mike.
