PLAINS – At the monthly fair commission meeting, a number of community members took the stand to voice numerous projects happening in the area.

Ken Jones addressed the fair board on a project he recently has funneled his efforts into.

Jones has decided to help bring Made in Montana products into the county to help the community.

At the time of the meeting, Jones had an appointment with the Economic Development board scheduled on Thursday morning and he was in the process of creating a committee for the project.

“I want to make sure that my committee is made up of the right people and I’d like to ask the fair board to be a participant in that committee,” said Jones.

Jones explained there are already 46 members registered in Sanders County with Made in Montana but while holding the Community Market, Jones said he made 50 more contacts that are actively signing up with the program.

“With that kind of momentum, I think we’d be foolish to not act on it,” said Jones. “We really need to do something about our commerce here.”

Jones pointed out the fairgrounds was the perfect site to bring all those people together in one place. Jones is currently working on the project.

After Billy Hill requested the fairgrounds be donated for both the Tri-State Veterans Stand Down and another possible stand down that would benefit civilians, the fair board discussed the contract with the carnival.

Fair Board Manager Mike Hashisaki said the contract is up for renewal in 2014 and he plans to renegotiate it to get 25 percent of all the carnival sales. Currently the organization gets 20 percent of all the carnival sales up to $100,000 and 25 percent of the sales when the amount goes above $100,000.

As the meeting wrapped to a close, Patti Waldoch addressed the board about a new Plains Day event she plans to bring to the community.

The event would be a ranch sorting horse competition and would include a variety of different levels to garnish a large amount of participants. For the full story, check out the article: Plains Day to receive new event for next year.
