The Trotters come away with a win against Eureka
EUREKA – The Trotters of Plains came away with a victory in Eureka on Saturday. The volleyball team needed five sets to dispatch the young team on their home court.
Eureka won the first set 25 to 21. Plains took the next two sets 26 to 24 and 25 to 19. Eureka would bounce back with a win in the fourth set 25 to 21 but Plains would put the match away with a win in the fifth set 15 to 12.
The Trotters were aided by a strong showing from Felicia Earhart who had 24 out of the 26 assists from the team. Kimberley Earhart had 15 out of the 37 digs for the Plains team. The Trotters had 45 kills with Earhart and Corle Morefield accounting for nine apiece.
Head Coach Kim Earhart said he was particularly impressed with the defensive effort from Leah Thompson who had eight of the 11 blocks from the Trotters.
“That’s something I’ve really been pushing for,” said Earhart.
Keely Benson and Kimberley Earhart each supplied some offensive firepower for Plains with three aces apiece. Coach Earhart said the team had to compensate for a particularly talented player on the other side of the net.
“They had a very dominant player who had half of their kills,” said Earhart. “I adjusted the lineup so that Leah would go up against her. She had two really prominent blocks that set the mood.”
Coach Earhart said the team came out and played aggressively assisted by the return of the on court leadership from Felicia Earhart. Earhart had missed a few games due to illness.
“They were hungry for it. They played all the way to the finish. They deserved the win,” said Earhart.
The team from Plains next faced the team from Ronan away from home on Tuesday. Coach Earhart said the team would be focusing primarily on defense.
“We are working on our serve receive,” said Earhart. “We need to work on our passing in the back as well.”
Scores for the match versus Ronan were not available at time of press.
