THOMPSON FALLS – During the highly anticipated homecoming game, the Bluehawks battled for a win against Eureka in a match that had plenty of almost grasped opportunities.

Thompson Falls was first receiving the ball and Joe Frields carried the ball down the field. With the ball in Bluehawk possession, Eureka intercepted and zigzagged through the Bluehawks only to be stopped in their tracks and sent backwards, losing Eureka yards in the progress.

As the first quarter wound down to a close, Thompson Falls made continual progress down the field. As Eureka took control of the ball, Dalton Hooten blocked their pass and would later intercept the ball causing the crowd to explode with cheers.

Despite their valiant efforts, the first quarter had no touchdowns for either team.

As the second quarter began, Eureka ran a touchdown and completed a two point conversion, bringing the score 0 to 8.

Quarterback Greg Wadsworth passed the ball to Trais Hosington, who brought the team to a first down.

After an intentional grounding call against Thompson Falls, the team received a five-yard penalty resulting in a loss of a down.

The Eureka Lions received an illegal shift penalty right after but the penalty did not thwart their efforts and the Lions scored their second touchdown of the night.

After receiving the ball, Dylan Vaught gunned it down the field making it to the 20-yard line. Although no touchdown came from the efforts, Jake Smith would score the Bluehawks’ first touchdown and with a two-point conversion, the score sat at 8 to 16.

In the third quarter, Thompson Falls kept the Lions at bay, stopping their progress multiple times. However, seeing a break in the Bluehawks defense, the Lions scored another touchdown.

McKenzie Holt blocked a pass to one of the Eureka players and then Nate Norris intercepted the ball.

Joe Lundberg blocked another pass by Eureka. As the Bluehawks fought tooth and nail, they continued to impress the crowd with their performance.

Norris scored another touchdown for Thompson Falls bringing the score to 14 to 24. Eureka countered with another touchdown where the score would remain for the rest of the night, 14 to 30.

The team showed an incredible battle on the field, hoping to take the victory for their homecoming game.

“We played very well overall, we just have a hard time getting in the end zone,” said Head Coach Curt Kegel. “We had an opportunity to win the game.”

The Bluehawks passing game was strong with 195 yards passing. The team also made defensive adjustments and came up with approximately 300 more yards offensively.

Coach Kegel said Wadsworth, Tanner Laws, Hoisington, Dylan Vaught and Smith. Had a good game.

“They felt really good about their performance. They are starting to realize we are at that level and we can play with those guys,” said Coach Kegel. “They are disappointed that we didn’t win.”

Thompson Falls will be competing against Plains for their next game on October 4. After succeeding in a win the first time they played, Coach Kegel said he is unsure of how the Horsemen have changed.

“We don’t know what kind of adjustments they are going to make,” said Coach Kegel. “Traditionally anything goes in the Thompson Falls and Plains game – that’s the black and blue game.”
