Free Medicare 101 Classes Coming Soon

The Area VI Agency on Aging will be offering a free 3-hour Medicare 101 class at the Mineral County Health Department Conference Room, 1208 6th Ave. E., on Tuesday Oct. 15. The class will be held at 1-4 PM and again at 6-9 PM. The class is geared to those turning 65 and joining Medicare soon, but is open to anyone who finds Medicare confusing and would like some help understanding. The Disabled American Veterans Volunteer Transportation Network ( DAV) provides transportation to ALL rural Veterans FREE of Charge. Are you a veteran? Do you need a ride to Missoula, Helena?

Mineral County has nine volunteer drivers and one Volunteer Coordinator to ensure that no veteran is left without transportation. You do not need to be disabled to ride the van, Caregivers are allowed to travel with the veteran on approved medical appointments, and handicapped transportation is also available to our veterans. You need to make your appointments as soon as you receive your letter. Please call 241-2934 or 822-2213.

Computer Class

Instructor: George Cheesman

Location: St. Regis Visitor Information Center (Located behind Subway)

Days/Times: Tuesdays and Thursdays/4:00-7:00pm

Session Dates: Classes begin October 8th and continue Tuesdays and Thursdays through October. No class October 22nd.

Course capacity: 4 people per class

Description: These classes are for basic computer use such as programs, upkeep, and email. I am here to answer your questions about the programs you use or would like to use. All questions are important. When you sign up, please let me know if there is a specific topic or program that you would like to know more about. I will give more advanced classes as they are needed.

Materials: Everything is provided. If you would like to bring a laptop, you can but it is not necessary.

GED Prep Course

Description: This GED Prep class will be designed to help you study to take the GED. I will provide practice materials and help in each subject. This class can focus wherever you need some assistance.

Preschool Playtime Course

Days/Times: Class #1 Sat. Oct. 12th 12pm-2pm; Class #2 Fri. Oct.25th 5pm-7pm; Class #3 Tues. Oct. 29th 5pm-7pm

Depending on participation, I can offer more classes or specific days for November classes.

Description: This is a time for you to participate in activities with your child/children ages birth to 5 years old. This is a great time to have structured play with other little kids. We will have some free play time with learning centers and many activities that are designed to foster educational growth and creativity.

Piano Lessons

Course capacity: Will take five students for weekly lessons.

Description: Piano lessons consist of learning the skills and techniques needed to facilitate a lifelong enjoyment of making music! Basic skills require practice and concentration but yield a wonderful sense of accomplishment when the results are achieved. If you would like to start or continue piano lessons, come talk to me!

OULA (dance fitness)

Description: OULA is one hour of high-octane, crazy-fun dance energy featuring sexy and fun movement to top 40s music. OULA is dancemania for the soul and is not just an exercise class, it is an experience. We are a welcoming community in St. Regis where you enter looking to burn calories, and leave feeling better about yourself and your day! All ability levels welcome.

Mineral County Local Advisory Council (LAC)

The Mineral County Local Advisory Council (LAC) meets at noon on the first Tuesday of each month in the lower level of the Western Montana Mental Health Center, 405 Brooklyn Ave in Superior. The Mineral County LAC has been created to bring awareness to mental health in our community.

Mineral County Chamber of Commerce

Mineral County Chamber of Commerce meets the third Thursday of every month. Next meeting will be October 19, Speakers will be from Blackfoot Telephone, speaking on internet service in Mineral County.

Mineral County Tea Party

The Mineral County Tea Party meets every month on the first Tuesday at 6:30 at the St. Regis Community Center. US Senate candidate Champ Edmunds will be the featured speaker at the Sept. 3 meeting of the Mineral County Tea Party. Call 649-2193 for more info.

Mineral County Republicans

At 9:30 a.m., every Wednesday at the Alberton Library, moms are invited to bring their young children.

St. Regis Sewer Board

The St. Regis Sewer Board meets at 6 p.m. the second Thursday of the month at the community center at 30 Lobo Loop.

Quilting guild

The Cabin Fever Quilters Guild meets the first Tuesday of every month. Call Sherill Christenson at 678-4240 for times and locations as they vary.

Mineral Community Hospital Board of Directors

The Mineral Community Hospital board of directors meets the 4th Thursday of each month (except in November) at 11am in the conference center of the Mineral Regional Health Center.

Superior Food Bank

The food bank is open 10 a.m. to noon, and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Fridays. The Superior Food Bank, is located at the corner of Pine and 4th Avenue, and has changed alley entrance location.

RSVP for seniors

The retired Senior Volunteers Program for Mineral County will be holding office hours from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on the second Tuesday each month in the St. Regis Community Center. RSVP recruits volunteers and matches them with nonprofit groups and projects to help out locally. There are some benefits. Contact Mary Jo at 822-2213.

St. Regis Resort Board

The resort area board meets at 6 p.m. the second Monday of each month in the St. Regis Community Center. All meetings open to the public.

Cemetery District # 3

Alberton Food Bank

The food bank in Alberton is open from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.

Mineral County Fair Board

Meetings are every 3rd Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the County Extension Office in Superior.
