Superior Lady Bobcats trump Noxon in three sets
SUPERIOR – Superior’s Lady Bobcats gained a decisive three-match victory in their game against Noxon’s Lady Red Devils Thursday evening.
Superior started the set off strong and put several points on the board. The ladies had powerful net play and a good defense throughout the game.
As the game continued, the Lady Bobcats displayed a really strong back line displaying a good range of defense and good communication between each other.
Through the game, the Lady Red Devils were able to catch up in the second and third sets, keeping a fairly even score for some time in the third, but it was no good against Superior’s teamwork and unity.
“(The Lady Bobcats are) a good team, and they go out there and play as a team every time,” said Head Coach Beth Janney.
According to Janney, sophomores Marissa Koke and Danielle Ewoniuk both played outstanding games in the front row, with Koke playing “her best game of the season.” Junior Nedeia Ewoniuk also received Janney’s praise for her game in the back row. Janney said the game was one of the best setter games of the season and overall, their best game yet.
“I’m really proud of them for performing as a team,” Janney said.
Leading up to Saturday’s game against Hot Springs, Janney said the team will be working on their back row and keeping it strong. She said putting the ball into holes in the other team’s defense is something the Lady Bobcats have struggled with all year, though they are getting better at it.
“They’re coming together and they’re (doing) a better job at it,” Janney said.
Janney is confident of the team’s abilities in the next game. She feels that they will do well as long as they continue to perform well as a team and play a strong game.
“As long as they’re performing at the level they played tonight, it will be a good game,” she said.
