Lady Tigers see two victories before last home game
ST. REGIS – The St. Regis Lady Tigers won two victories in their games against the Alberton Lady Panthers, the Victor Lady Pirates and played a game against the Arlee Lady Scarlet Warriors.
St. Regis defeated Alberton in three sets, taking all three victories by large leads. According to Head Coach Jennifer Pruitt, this was one of the team’s better games for executing plays. Pruitt said that the girls have really started to trust each other and are starting to really mesh together as a team. All of the girls were “on their hits” with lots of kills, aces and blocks.
“Overall, we were just moving with the ball really well and they were jumping to the ball rather than leaning to [it],” said Pruitt.
Pruitt noted that Senior Arianna Jones, Junior Gabby Moeller and Freshman Courtney Cheesman all got really good hits during the game. Moeller also got 24 kills and three of the game’s five blocks with Jones getting five of the 12 digs. Freshman Madison Hill was also praised for making 14 of the 17 assists.
The game in Arlee was close, but St. Regis was able to bring home a victory in four sets. For this game, Pruitt used her younger players a lot; this though, with Moeller being unable to make the game, led to it being harder fought. According to Pruitt, Jones and Cheesman stepped up and played extra hard during the match and made up for Moeller’s absence.
Pruitt noted a few players for exceptional plays during the game. Cheesman made five of the game’s seven blocks and 10 of 32 kills. Freshman Madison Hill also received praise for making 17 out of 19 assists. Jones hit six out of 17 aces and six of 29 digs. According to Pruitt, the rest of the aces and digs were spread out among the rest of the team with “pretty much everyone [on the team getting] one.”
Calls to Pruitt for information on the game against Arlee went unreturned.
The Lady Tigers also had a game Tuesday, October 22, in Two Eagle River against the Lady Eagles. St. Regis’s next game, and last home game, is Thursday, October 24, against the Superior Lady Bobcats. The match will be a special Pack the House event to raise funds for breast cancer research.
Pruitt was confident leading up to the game against Two Eagle and felt her team would do well. She is looking forward to the game against Superior, saying that it should be a good game and might be harder fought than others.
“Being county rivals it always makes for a good game whenever we play,” said Pruitt.
