SUPERIOR – The Superior Bobcats smoked the Noxon Red Devils with a final score of 68-14 in their football game Friday.

Superior played a strong game, getting an immediate lead early in the first quarter. According to Head Coach Alan Labbe, the whole team put in a good effort during the game.

The team’s main goal was to play well and keep “a high level of intensity” for as long as possible. The Bobcats succeeded at this, keeping Noxon from holding possession of the ball for long. Throughout the game, most of the action was centered on Superior’s end of the field.

At halftime, with a score of 15-0, the Bobcats were in a good place. According to Labbe, the team changed their tactics in the second half to play their best and have a good game.

“Our goal was to get the younger kids some playing time and be good sports about not running the score up,” said Labbe.

Wyatt Zylawy had an amazing game. In the first quarter, Zylawy threw a 27 yard pass to Tucker Smith for a touchdown. He later threw another scoring pass 39 yards to Vicente Geurrero.

Smith also had a great game making several touchdowns over the course of the game. Included in this was a terrific 50 yard drive down the field and a 65 yard return after a kick-off.

According to Labbe, the games are always a team effort and everyone puts in their best efforts.

“That’s what it has to be,” said Labbe. “If you have just one player that comes out and plays hard every week you’ll win a lot of games, but you won’t win all the games.”

Labbe said that it is important for the whole team to play with a lot of intensity. The key is for them all to have the same mentality.

Labbe liked the team’s tempo during the game and the fact that the Bobcats only had “one penalty for five yards.” The team’s offense was also good, in Labbe’s opinion. They were able to keep plays coming in and overall played successfully..

Leading up to the next game against the Drummond Trojans, Labbe will be working on the team’s all-around game. Because of how big a game it will be, being both their last home game and the game leading into playoffs, the Bobcats will have to be “on top of their game.”

“There’s a good team coming in and we have a lot to do,” said Labbe. “Everything we do is gonna get worked this week.”

Labbe would not make a prediction on the outcome of the game against Drummond saying they have a good football team. All he would say was that, with two strong teams playing, it was sure to be a good match.

“When they come to town, it’ll be a good game,” said Labbe. “That’s my thoughts on it.”

The Bobcat’s next varsity game will be on Friday, October 25 against Drummond. It will be their last home game before playoffs.
