Thompson Falls hopes to continue winning ways
THOMPSON FALLS – The Lady Hawks dominated at the court and showed the crowd they were ready for conference play as they won both of their games this week.
The ladies played Bigfork on their home court Friday night at 7 p.m.
With this game being the first Friday night game of the season, the ladies were excited to take over Thompson Falls and be the talk of the town. And that’s exactly what the Lady Hawks did.
In the first set, Bigfork started off with the first point but the ladies determined to come up with a win shot right back with four. As the set continued on in an even, steady match the ladies were just three points shy of taking the set.
As the second set started, Thompson Falls nailed down point after point, bringing in the first nine points of the set. Bigfork managed to catch up to the ladies and after a series of very impressive volleys, the Lady Hawks took the win 25 to 16.
The third set remained to be a fair one, with the girls continual trading who scores. The score remained even until the end of the set neared. The crowd cheered on the ladies every move and Thompson Falls took the set 25 to 22.
The Lady Hawks fell behind in the fourth set, trailing behind Bigfork a few points throughout the match. As they crept their way closer to their opponent’s point total, their efforts were not enough and they lost the set 20 to 25.
However, that did not thwart them as they ladies would take the victory in the fifth and final set.
As the set started Bigfork was a force to be reckoned with, playing a very strong game. However, their skill was not enough to win it and the Lady Hawks overpowered their competition after a series of long volleys that favored Thompson Falls.
Erica Sorlie managed to bring the team ahead by scoring an ace and from there the team continued to advance. The fifth set was won 16 to 14.
Logan Beckman had 19 kills, one solo block, 19 digs and two aces, with Shasta Wilson bringing in 18 kills, one solo block, two aces and 20 digs. Shey Hannum had 15 kills, two solo blocks, two aces and ten digs while her sister Autrey Hannum had seven kills, two solo blocks and 16 digs. Madison Fitchett brought in five kills, one solo block and 20 digs and Madi Wheeler scored with two kills and six digs. Angela Padden had eight digs and Erica Sorlie had a whopping 44 set assists, four aces and 26 digs.
As for the game against Libby, the Lady Hawks hit the road and won in five sets (25-23, 17-25, 19-25, 25-12, 15-8).
Beckman had 13 kills, 14 digs and three aces while Shey Hannum brought in 10 kills, six solo blocks, four aces and eight digs. Wilson had eight kills, four solo blocks, two aces and 17 digs and Autrey Hannum brought in six kills, two solo blocks and two aces. Fitchett had four kills, two solo blocks, two aces, 16 digs and 13 set assists, with Padden bringing in two aces and 14 digs. Sorlie had 25 set assists and nine digs.
The Lady Hawks will next play Troy on the 24th in Thompson Falls at 7 p.m. The game marks the last home game of the season. With only two games before districts, the team hopes to continue improving in hopes that they will advance further into the season.
