Truck fire put out quickly
SUPERIOR – Superior’s Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call as smoke billowed into the sky near Superior on the morning of Tuesday, October 15.
Arriving on the scene, along Dry Creek Road, firefighters discovered a service truck with a fire burning in the cab. Fire Chief John Woodland said the fire was mostly out by the time response crews arrived on the scene.
According to Woodland, the fire department deployed two engines, the first line pumper and a truck with additional water. The water truck was not brought up to the site when it was discovered how minor the incident was.
Woodland said they wanted the water truck able to respond quickly in case another call came through.
The cause of the fire remains unknown. It was determined it was not a mechanical failure and while the equipment appeared to work fine, Woodland said he could not determine whether a malfunction caused the fire.
There were no injuries at the scene. Though the interior of the car was severely burned, with broken windows and the seats burnt out, the vehicle was still operable. According to Woodland, there did not appear to be any mechanical damage to the vehicle.
