Noxon volleyball prepped and ready for districts
NOXON – The Lady Red Devils gained some more experience in time for the district competition, which will be located in Hot Springs.
In their last two games of the regular season, Noxon lost both games in five sets to Superior and Arlee.
According to Head Coach Teri Wilkinson, the ladies gave up in the fifth set of each game.
“I was kind of thinking that we could beat both of them but we just don’t have the experience that other teams have,” said Coach Wilkinson. “We are young and we just made some awfully young mistakes.”
In the game against Arlee, the final score was 25 to 20, 18 to 25, 17 to 25, 25 to 23 and 8 to 15. The girl’s experience was enough to stretch the game to five sets, however, it was not enough for the win.
Zoey Osborne had 10 kills and four blocks, while Asiah Jensen had 17 digs. Sara Webley had nine assists and Katie Chandler brought in two aces.
Coach Wilkinson credited both Nicole Zavoianu and Osborne for a good game against Arlee.
During the last home game against Superior the final scores came down to 15 to 25, 25 to 13, 25 to 18, 17 to 25 and 4 to 15. Osborne had six kills and Zavoianu had four blocks. Webley brought in 14 digs and three assists with Bethanie Ulrick also gaining three assists. Chandler led the team with three aces.
“We got into that fifth game and I think they realized it only went to 15 points, they make a mistake and they instantly start to panic,” said Coach Wilkinson.
She said the team typically has a hit or miss game when it comes to avoiding mistakes.
“It’s just lots of simple passing mistakes but it comes down to confidence and when you have so many people that have never played varsity before, it gets tough,” explained Coach Wilkinson.
Heading into districts this weekend, Coach Wilkinson does believe her team can pull out some wins.
“If the team that can play shows up, I think we can do a lot better than we did these last two matches but you know it’s just so unpredictable which team is going to show up,” said Coach Wilkinson.
Fingers are crossed that the Lady Red Devils will come with their best foot forward, ready for a fight and ready for a victory.
