Letters to the Editor - Sept. 4

| September 4, 2013 10:13 AM

A thank you from the SCVT

What a great four days for Sanders County Veterans Transportation! Our Parking Fundraiser on the hay field by the Red Barn across form the Fairgrounds was a successful adventure, and we have the support of the community, tireless volunteers, and many supporters to thank. We are off to a good start toward a replacement vehicle for the old DAV Plains van.

SCVT would like to especially thank the property owner Sharon Burke for opening up her property for activities that serve to enhance the Sanders County Fair experience.

Local folks worked as parking staff, and local services provided advertising and signage.

We also welcomed other local volunteers who helped with parking from 8:00 am to 8:00 PM for the four days of the Sanders County Fair.

Thanks again everyone!

Lark Chadwick,

Thompson Falls

A round of applause for fair

This was our first time to attend the Sanders County Fair. The parking experience was very positive. How nice to park on green, rather than throat-choking dust.

Free entry was great! Makes it possible for families to come without financial hardship. And, then, to walk into a clean, green family area – picnic tables, each graced with a large, colorful umbrella to keep the sun away.

Even though we are not from the area, the atmosphere was friendly and the people sociable. We enjoyed going through the exhibits and seeing the animals. Having the carnival area in the back of the grounds was a good touch.

The rodeo was a well-run, exciting (and sometime heartbreaking) event. To know those competitors come from so far for those few moments of “the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat” make you admire their persistence. Thank you, all.

Our compliments to the Fair Board of Sanders County for a great day! We will definitely come back next year.

Daines and congress - do your job

The other night, on “Memorable Entertainment-TV”, I watched “Curse of the Werewolf” [courtesy of SvenGhouli], and was struck by how simple those movie scripts deal with a terrorist on the loose in the land...

Like Obama. Or Holder. Or the Wolfman, Werewolf, Dracula, Frankenstein, even giant unreal dinosaurs and gorillas... In pretend-land, they simply kill the beast. Simple. Clean. To the point. Why must we continue suffering being called the terrorists, when it is the man and his wife in the White House, and their friends and mentors, who are the real terrorists? They stalk among us with their NSA and other snoops and threaten us with jail, prison, fines or worse for simply disagreeing with them - while their other hero (Hillary Clinton) has been reported to have yelled, screechingly, “it is our right to dissent”. It is time to rid ourselves and our frightened citizenry of the “Beasts That Walk Among Us”.

Mr. Daines - It is time for you and your fellow Congress-people to do your jobs. Rid us of these terrorists who masquerade as rulers. The US Constitution you swore to protect and defend mentioned nothing about “rulers”.
