NOXON – The Red Devils took to the field on Saturday, August 31 to open up their season against Granite. The young team showed dedication and heart as they played on their home turf.

Granite beat Noxon 54 to 12, bringing Noxon to 0-1.

Head Coach Josh Patterson said the team is still young and learning the game itself.

“We did some things well and we also made some mistakes. Lots of kids that are seniors and juniors but a lot of them haven’t played since junior high,” said Coach Patterson. “Even though they are physically matured and very athletic, they are learning the game of football.”

Patterson said the team had some catching up to do and practices are being dedicated to correcting the mistakes that were made.

Oliver Grupenhoff was the overall MVP of the game, with seven total tackles and four tackles for loss. Grupenhoff also played a good blocking game as an offensive lineman.

The offensive MVP title went to Bradley Fitchett who had four carries for 70 years and one rushing touchdown. Fitchett also had a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Gary Wadman was named the defensive MVP, bringing in 12 total tackles with six solo tackles and six assists. Wadman had one caused fumble, which was recovered by Fitchett for a touchdown.

This week the team will hit the road to play Charlo, a game that may prove to be difficult.

“It’s going to be tough,” said Coach Patterson.

Charlo beat Superior last week – the former state champions.

“We have a great challenge ahead of us but we know the challenge and we are going to do our best to prepare and answer that challenge as best as we can,” said Coach Patterson.
