Car show draws crowds despite cloudy conditions

| September 11, 2013 1:08 PM

TROUT CREEK - Clouds and threats of rain could not stop the 9th annual Cool Summer Nights Car Show in Trout Creek at the Lakeside Motel and Resort. Overcast skies looked to washout the car show, however by the start of the show at 10 a.m. the number of cars outdid the rainy expectation. Cars, trucks, pickups and motorcycles lined up on the grass, pavement and inside of the restaurant. In all, 36 vehicles lined up for the day with sunny to overcast skies. The voting for the people’s and driver’s choice awards were completed by spectators as well as the drivers. A deadline of 2 p.m. was established for votes, which allowed one hour to tally up the numbers and announce the winners by 3 p.m.

Winners for the awards were as follows: First place - Gary Linda Rose with a 1929 Rat Rod; Second place - Gary McGraw with a 1931 Ford Coupe; Third place - George Morgan with a 1930 Model A pickup; Fourth place - Jim Willoughby with a 1966 Mustang; Fifth place - Kamden Hanley and Marilyn Vaught with a 1957 Belair; Sixth place - Ben and Phyllis Broyles with a 1965 Chevy pickup; Seventh place - Ken and Krystal Boone with a 2007 Shelby Mustang; Eighth place - Roger and Kay Barnes with a 1940 Ford Sedan; Ninth place - Jack and Trudy Koeneman with a 1951 L-150 International Truck; and tenth place - Jerry Kohm with a 1958 Dodge Coronet.

Cool Summer Nights Car Show was able to give quality prizes to all of the entries because of the generous donors: First Security Bank, House of Insurance, Harvest Foods, D & D Liquor, Energy Partners, Bennett Homes and Realty, Les Schwab, Glen’s Auto Glass, Ron’s Sinclair s Service, S & S Sports, Roger and Kay Barnes and Lakeside Motel and Resort.
