Superior Bobcat volleyball head coach Beth Janney has been stressing two things to her young squad since the season began – consistent improvement and constant enthusiasm.

The enthusiastic Lady Bobcats played two games during week two of the season, starting off with a match at home against Hot Springs on Friday night.

“We went out and competed with Hot Springs,” Coach Janney said. “The games were high energy and the girls never gave up, they played hard, and I was very proud of the way they competed.”

While the match did not ultimately go Superior’s way (they lost to Hot Springs in four games 15-25,25-16,13-25,23-25), the squad remained up beat and pushed themselves and their teammates throughout the match.

Coach Janney said that she “saw improvement and solid effort” from her entire team and mentioned the individual efforts of several players as well.

“We saw some big plays from Nadeia Ewoniuk in the back row and Melissa Koke in the front,” Coach Janney said. “Michele Smith was a great leader out on the court and really helped keep the team working together.”

On Saturday, the Lady Bobcats hit the road and headed to Charlo where they faced a tough opponent and although they lost in straight games (6-25,11-25,20-25) Coach Janney was impressed with the way her squad kept fighting.

“We had a line up change and it threw the girls a bit, but they pulled it together in the 3rd match,” Coach Janney said.

This week Superior will take on county rivals St. Regis in a game at home on Thursday.

“We will work to be better each day and learn from our losses,” Coach Janney said regarding the upcoming week of practice and games.

“We will outwork our opponents on and off the court and as always we are going to work to accomplish this as a team.”
