THOMPSON FALLS – The Lady Hawks started the season off strong with the Mission Tournament bringing home seven wins out of the eight games played.

According to Head Coach Sandra Kazmierczak the score shows the girls are doing well in the game itself.

“It was a great day for us and there was a lot of teams that were really well balanced and very strong,” said Coach Kazmierczak.

Since the Mission tournament, the team has been undergoing changes, with girls moving into new positions. As the girls continually improve, the team is trying to zone in and find out what each player’s ability levels are.

On Thursday, Sept. 5, the ladies hosted their first home game against Florence. The game proved to be a nail bitter as the ladies fought to bring wins in the first two sets.

As the teams played, the score moved point-by-point, balancing itself out in an almost even score throughout the match.

The first set was won by the Lady Hawks 26 to 24.

In the second set the ladies picked up some speed. The Lady Hawks kept a lead on Florence throughout the set, scoring seven points ahead of them with a score of 25 to 18.

As the competition stiffened in the third set, both sides were fired up, Thompson Falls working with their team to catch up to Florence who led the first half of the set.

They tied their opponents 12 to 12, although the tie did not last long. The remainder of the set continued point by point. With only three points to go to win the match, the Lady Hawks were unable to rack the points up, falling behind 22 to 25.

The fourth set ended with a score of 10 to 25 bringing the Lady Hawks into the fifth and final set – a set that would determine who took a victory home.

As the score favored Florence, Thompson Falls began gaining ground, but came up short ending the set 10 to 15 and losing the match 2 to 3.

Regardless of the loss, Coach Kazmierczak said the ladies had a good game.

“It was exciting for the girls to open up a home game,” said Coach Kazmierczak. “In their eyes you can see it, you can see them going at it.”

The ladies then hit the road to face off against Loyola, a game Coach Kazmierczak said the ladies were unable to get themselves going in.

Loyola beat the Lady Hawks in three but Coach Kazmierczak said with a young team, there is always room for growth.

“Everyone is learning a new position and we just have to come together in the roles. But meanwhile the kids are working hard at practice and we have a good thing going,” said Coach Kazmierczak. “I’m confident and they are very athletic.”

The ladies played Polson on Tuesday and although scores were unavailable at the time of press, Coach Kazmierczak said it should be a good match.

“The coach has a great program so it should be a good match,” said Coach Kazmierczak.

The ladies then face Frenchtown at home on Saturday.

“They are going to be a well-rounded team. But we love playing and we’ll see how far we can go with it. We’ll just take it one game at a time and see where it goes,” said Coach Kazmierczak.
