Mineral County Commissioners Briefs

The following briefs are from the official minutes of the Sept. 4 and 5 meetings of the Mineral County Commissioners.

Monthly Department Director’s Meeting

Roni Phillips of the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office gave apologies for Sheriff Ernie Ornelas being absent and said there were no updates to give on MCSO.

County Planner Tim Read said the Environmental Protection Agency is “back in town” cleaning contaminated yards and the agency has said they will hire locals.

Roy Kay gave an update on the newly reopened library in Superior as well as a detailed description of the repairs.

Drug Treatment Court Discussion

County Attorney Marcia Boris informed the commissioners that she was asked to speak regarding the clerks in Justice Court taking over the Treatment Court duties when current Treatment Court Clerk Juli Balenger leaves at the end of September. Commissioner Duane Simons made a motion to extend the Treatment Court using Adam Cole, Colleen Vearrier, Jaime Stewart and the MCSO Detention Officers. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Laurie Johnston and passed unanimously.

County Policy – Small Quantity

Sales of County Gravel.

Commissioner Duane Simons made a motion, which was seconded by Commissioner Roman Zylawy and passed unanimously. The motion sets the gravel policy as follows: “The public can purchase three yards of oversize/pit run (not any screened material) for $3.00 per yard.
