Timberwolves bring the thunder to Big Sandy

The start of the inaugural game of the Clark Fork Timberwolves football team was delayed for over two-hours due to lighting, but when the Timberwolves finally hit the field on the road against Big Sandy they brought the thunder.

Alberton Head Coach Jake Giffen said that a delay like that can dramatically affect the momentum and outcome of a game, especially this early in the season, but he was proud of his team’s efforts.

“They stepped up and did a great job,” Coach Giffen said. “On defense we were swarming the ball and we blocked well on defense.”

Utilizing the excellent blocking of the Timberwolves, Alberton senior and All-State player Keir Sanzano racked up 181-yards and four touchdowns on the ground and returned a kickoff for a touchdown as well.

Although the Timberwolves only have three players from St. Regis, Coach Giffen said he is impressed with what he has seen so far from the Tigers.

“They are dedicated and working hard,” Coach Giffen said. “Hopefully that will be an influence and we will get some more of them playing.”

Coach Giffen singled out the play of Tiger Dallas Lewis, who created a fumble in the fourth that was recovered by the Timberwolves.

“That was pivotal point in the game for us,” Coach Giffen said. “He is going to be a big asset for us going into the rest of the season.”

The Timberwolves beat Big Sandy 30-19 and will face off at home, in St. Regis, against West Yellowstone this Friday.

“We are going to prepare like we normally do,” Coach Giffen said. “On Friday we will play the same type of offense and we will see who comes out stronger.”

Kickoff is at 7pm.
