According to Superior Bobcat football Head Coach Allan Labbe, Friday’s home game against Seeley-Swan showed a lot of room for improvement in his squad.

However, due in large part to a tremendous 24-0 third quarter effort by the Bobcats the game also resulted in a victory.

“We found out a lot of things we need to work on,” Coach Labbe said. “But it’s good that we can find that out and still come away with a win.”

Coach Labbe said the team must continue to fine-tune their running schemes on offense as well as work on their open field tackling on the defensive side of things.

“We just have to become better open field tacklers,” Coach Labbe said. “It’s imperative when the team you are going against has a good quarterback like Seeley did.”

Although Coach Labbe said the team needs to work on making these and several other improvements, he had praise for his squads ability to make adjustments and come back to win in the second half.

“You have got to be able to make adjustments and we made some good ones,” Coach Labbe said. “We don’t have any really easy competition this year, they all want to go out there and win.”

Hanging onto a slim lead going into the second half against Seeley put the Bobcats in a similar position they were in on the road against Victor. Being able to bounce back to win both games is a step in the right direction for Superior.

“We kind of got spoiled during last year’s playoff run when we were just thumping on people,” Coach Labbe said. “But being down to Victor and coming back to win – I was impressed with that and it’s a good sign.”

With a 28-26 lead beginning the second half of football against Seeley the Bobcats found themselves in familiar territory and once again were able to respond – putting up 36 points in the second half while holding Seeley to just 14.

Bobcat quarterback finished the game with three passing touchdowns and two rushing scores.

Cole Karow ran hard between the tackles and was able to find the end zone three times.

This week is homecoming week for the Bobcats, who will face Darby on Friday night.

“We are going to focus on our tempo this week,” Coach Labbe said.

“We are getting better but we are not where we are going to be.” Another focal point for the Bobcat practices this week will be open field tackling. In a league stacked with competitive teams from top to bottom, Coach Labbe said the defense will have to be ferocious.

“We gotta attack ‘em like a badger on a three-legged gopher,” Coach Labbe said. “That’s what I always tell the team. Sometimes it’s a one-legged gopher.”
