Rivals clashed in Superior on Thursday as the St. Regis Lady Tiger volleyball squad came into Bobcat country for the first of two meetings between the teams this season.

The competition was fierce between the teams throughout the five-game match, with both squads going back and forth in a constant duel for momentum.

“Both teams played excellent,” Superior Head Coach Beth Janney said. “It was a hard fought battle and this time St. Regis came out on top.”

The Tigers were led by the efforts of Arianna Jones and Gabby Moeller – who had 12-kills apiece, each coming at critical moments of the match.

In a constant back and forth, the teams traded games and in the fifth game of the match the Tigers were able to give one final push.

The 15-12 fifth game victory won the game for the Tigers, who improved their record to 1-1.

Marissa Kike had three blocks and three aces for the Bobcats and Coach Janney said she was impressed with how her squad played.

“They were a real team out there and they worked together and kept each other up until the very end even though they were tired,” Coach Janney said.

“This week our focus is on improving our fundamentals as always, and becoming more comfortable on the court. We are a young team still getting used to playing with each other, but during the game against St. Regis I saw the girls start to click and I’m excited for what the rest of the season holds for us.”
