Plains continues to develop on the gridiron

PLAINS – The Horsemen football team from Plains continue to gain experience against tough opponents this season. While the team has yet to come away with a win, they have been putting points on the scoreboard.

Friday’s game against Whitehall started off as a rainy affair with both teams struggling to maintain control of the ball. Turnovers plagued both teams with neither side getting the ball into the end zone at the end of the first quarter.

With the rain subsiding in the second quarter, the Horsemen gradually began to gain some momentum holding their opponents to 21 points in the first half. Head Coach Juan Lulack said he told the team during halftime that they needed to concentrate on their individual responsibilities on the field.

“Some guys were trying to do too much,” said Lulack. “I told them we should be able to put up some points against this team.”

The Horsemen went on to do just that scoring 16 points in the fourth quarter. The men from Plains went on to lose the bout 41 to 16 but according to Coach Lulack one of the goals this year is to continue putting points up against opponents.

We played better in the fourth quarter,” said Coach Lulack. “It was a long, tough battle. The ball was wet in the first half. Everything was tough out there today.”

The Horsemen will next face Mission at home this Friday. The team from Plains will face an opponent that has struggled offensively so far this season.

“They’ve struggled in their last two games. They have good players and they can run and throw,” said Coach Lulack. “All we need to do is get more consistent on offense. Each person has a job to do and we are getting better.”
