THOMPSON FALLS – Gospel music hit the streets of Thompson Falls on Saturday night, filling both the Rose Garden Park and the Rex Theater.

The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Trout Creek held an event called Music in the Park, allowing people to come together and sing hymns in an open and inviting environment.

Although many of the churchgoers had ordered a healthy dose of sunshine, clouds lined the skies and the brisk fall weather was in full swing. Despite the chilly weather, the turnout for the event was successful.

According to Karen Evans, this was the first time the event was held and next year the church hopes to make it a monthly occurrence on Saturday afternoons.

“Anyone can join us. Bring an instrument and have some fun. Everyone is welcome,” said Evans.

Manfred and Sheri Bauer from Heron attended the event, singing gospel folk songs from their own written collection. Other musicians from Clark Fork, Idaho joined in, many on instruments ranging from the tuba to the accordion.

As the lawns of the Rose Garden Park were lined with lawn chairs, refreshments were available for all those who came to enjoy the music. Cookies, vegetables and drinks were provided on a table laid out next to the musicians as were books that Evans described as a good daily doses of encouragement.

The event spanned over two hours and wrapped up shortly after 5 p.m., which opened the doors to another musical group in town.

Accounted For, a gospel music group, began singing at the Rex Theater at 6 p.m. Their act opened the doors to a night full of music and comedy.

According to their website, the family group began back in December of 2002 when Peter and Glenda Milne sang their first duet at the First Baptist Church in Thompson Falls. They introduced their younger son, Peter Alexander, otherwise known as Petie to their musical performance and from there has flowered a performance that many have grown to follow.

On average, the group travels one weekend a month and sings at a variety of different events, often times in churches.

“One would dare say Accounted For has more fun than any gospel group should ever be allowed,” reads the website – something that is apparent when you watch their performance.

Laughs from the crowd as well as from the family performing on stage, resonated throughout the Rex Theater.
