PLAINS – The Plains Horsemen took on Mission during a home game on Friday, September 20 – a game that looked to be an even match at first.

Starting off the game, Mission had two fumbles right off the bat.

After a penalty, the Horsemen were pushed back 15 yards on the field.

In a breakaway play, Mission broke through Plains defense but was caught again 15 yards from the end zone. After being tackled, the teams moved into the second quarter of the game.

Mission scored a touchdown and the kick was blocked by Horseman Trent Brouillette leaving the score at 0 to 6. Logan Goodwin ran the first play of the game.

Mission succeeded in scoring another touchdown and ran for two points, bringing the score to 0 to 12.

As the game still remained close, encouraging words could be heard from the Plains sidelines.

“Come on boys. Keep your heads up,” said a team member.

As Mission attempted to advance down the field, Plains continually stopped them in their tracks.

During the third quarter, after another touchdown by Mission, the Horsemen continued to advance the ball down the gridiron although they were unsuccessful in gaining points.

The fourth quarter started off 0 to 28. As Mission ran the ball down the field, a Horseman grabbed the ball out of his hands – performing a strip move – and ran towards the touchdown. Making it into the end zone, a blocking penalty canceled out the touchdown.

Throughout the game, the Horsemen refused to give up, always giving their all on the field.

Head Coach Juan Lulack said his team played hard.

“The first quarter we played hard and it was zero to zero. The second quarter they got some momentum and put 14 on. We had a lot of opportunities and a lot of good drives,” said Coach Lulack. “We look forward to regrouping and making some adjustments. It’s tough when you play a team hard and can’t put any points on the board.”

Lulack said the Horsemen’s special teams had little to no mistakes and overall the team did better with penalties.

According to Coach Lulack the inside run game was the most positive aspect of the game against Mission.

After a practice that pushed the Horsemen even further, the team hopes to perform well in their next game against Troy.

“We probably had our best practice of the year last week. The kids worked hard, practiced, hard,” said Coach Lulack. “We are going to practice just like we did last week. It’s up to our kids to perform.”

The team is only missing one block or one responsibility on defense – something Coach Lulack said a good team does on a regular basis.

“We are working to get to that level. Everybody is healthy, so we’re good.”

The game against Troy will take place on October 18th at 7 p.m. at Troy.
