HOT SPRINGS – The Savage Heat football team unleashed an offensive bombardment on the team from Lincoln on Friday during the 2013 Homecoming game in Hot Springs. The team defeated their opponents 59 to 0 during the one sided match that saw consistent defensive stops from Hot Springs and touchdowns coming on the ground and through the air.

Only 40 seconds into the game, tight end Jack Dolson received a pass for a touchdown from quarterback Tanner Hoff. The Savage Heat would continue applying the pressure blocking a punt and taking over deep in Lincoln territory. Wide receiver Jim Holland would score next off a pass from Hoff making the score 12 to nothing.

The Hot Springs defense would apply their own brand of pressure stopping the opponent’s drive and giving the offense the ball on downs. The Savage Heat drove the ball down the field scoring for the third time in the quarter.

The defense would once again stop their adversaries on downs leaving the score 19 to 0 at the end of the first quarter.

The beginning of the second quarter would start in similar fashion to the first with tight end Nate Gray scoring only seconds into the period. The defense would continue to stifle the Lincoln offense not allowing more than a few plays before shutting them down resulting in a turnover on downs.

Tanner Hoff would score the next touchdown for the Savage Heat driving the score to 39 to nothing with four minutes left in the half. Holland would score his second touchdown of the game on a long pass from Hoff to make the score 45 to 0 with only two minutes left.

The second half saw the mercy ruling put into effect. The clock did not stop and ran out with the final score 59 to 0.

Head Coach Jim Lawson said he was pleased with the team’s performance. He also said the high score allowed coaches the opportunity to play some of the athletes on the junior varsity squad providing a valuable learning experience for some of the novice players.

“It was a good team effort overall. We’ve been working on things like sustaining our blocks and tackling better,” said Lawson. “We’ve improved a lot. We put together a good game plan and the kids executed it well.”

The Savage Heat will next face West Yellowstone on Saturday away from home. Coach Lawson said their opponents have the potential to throw the ball effectively.

“They try to throw the ball a lot,” said Lawson. “We will have to be ready for them.”
