VFW hosts annual contest for students

| September 25, 2013 12:10 PM

The Plains Veterans of Foreign Wars Post and Auxiliary #3596 are again sponsoring the following contests for the school year of 2013 to 2014:

- The Patriot’s Pen Contest for grades 6 through 8 has a theme of “what patriotism means to me.” The written essay should be a length of 300 to 400 words and is due to the school by November 1, 2013.

- The Voice of Democracy Contest is for students in the grades 9 through 12. This year’s theme is “why I’m optimistic about our nation’s future.” For this category, the format is a three to five minute long audio essay either on a standard cassette tape or on a CD. The written speech and student’s photo must also be included.

- The auxiliary also sponsors an art contest. There is not a theme, but if you use the flag in the project you must follow proper flag procedures. The due date for the art contest is March 31, 2014.

All home schoolers are welcome to enter any or all of the contests. Please call our Auxiliary President Deb Davis at 826-4690 or contest chairperson Carol Harris at 826-5644.
