Mineral County to host diabetes awareness open house

| April 9, 2014 1:39 PM

SUPERIOR - Mineral County Community Support will be hosting a diabetes awareness open house, April 15, 7 p.m. at the Superior Ambulance Station.

Jennifer Troupe, program coordinator of Providence Medical Group's Diabetes Care and Prevention Center, will speak about how to prevent and control diabetes. Troupe is also a registered dietitian, and certified in diabetes education with her board certification in diabetes management.

This presentation is for anyone diagnosed with either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, at risk of acquiring diabetes, a family member of someone dealing with diabetes and anyone with an interest in learning more about diabetes.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 30 percent of the adult population could be diagnosed with diabetes by 2050. This is a grim statistic, but the good news is that it is something that can be prevented and controlled.
